This is an exciting opportunity to take on the role of Engineering Manager for all Overhead Line (OHL) projects in Scotland.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of internal and external engineering resources, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in line with project requirements.

This is a key role supporting business growth following major framework wins.

The Candidate:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Overhead Lines (OHL)
  • Strong OHL design experience
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
  • Ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable

The Role:

  • Engineering Activities: Oversee engineering input across pre-contract and project delivery stages.
  • Resource Allocation: Work with Operations Directors to identify and assign resources for temporary works and other engineering aspects.
  • Customer Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing relationships and ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
  • Staff Competency: Maintain up-to-date training records and ensure staff competency across all engineering functions.
  • Compliance: Ensure health, safety, environmental, and quality standards are met for each project.
  • Relationship Management: Collaborate with consulting engineers and in-house teams, managing design agreements and engineering activities.
  • Pre-Contract Support: Assist in securing design resources for future bids.
  • Innovation & Improvement: Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the business.
  • CDM Regulations: Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
  • Tender Support: Assist with pre-contract activities, including bid reviews, interviews, and customer presentations.
  • Quality Submissions: Support bid teams in producing high-quality proposals.
  • Contract Mobilisation: Work with Operations Directors to set up health and safety, quality, and environmental plans for new contracts.
  • Audits & Reporting: Conduct audits and produce reports to ensure compliance with quality and environmental standards.
  • Administration Management: Oversee compliance records, including training and engineering administration.
  • Best Practice Sharing: Collaborate with other business units to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Legislation Support: Assist in understanding and implementing relevant legislation.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the business at industry forums, as agreed with senior leadership.

  • Overhead line projects (new build, refurbishment, and maintenance)
