Job Title: Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Manchester
Salary: £30,000 to £40,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent

Your New Role:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the Mechanical Design team, with the opportunity to lead projects and mentor junior engineers. You will be involved in delivering mechanical design solutions across various stages of projects, from concept through to completion. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing project briefs and ensuring a clear understanding of client requirements.
  • Designing and specifying all mechanical building services systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and controls.
  • Carrying out detailed calculations using industry-standard software tools, including Excel, IES, HevaComp, and in-house developed tools.
  • Preparing technical specifications and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Collaborating with the BIM team to develop models and drawings using Revit.
  • Attending meetings with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, representing the company’s interests.
  • Conducting site surveys, inspections, and monitoring site works.
  • Writing reports and technical notes, documenting project progress and any anomalies.
  • Maintaining accurate records and archives in line with company standards.
  • Adhering to quality, environmental, and governance processes.
  • Managing your workload, providing regular updates on progress, and ensuring that work is delivered within agreed timeframes.
  • Managing aspects of project delivery, including budget monitoring and cost management.
  • Supporting junior staff with technical development and mentoring.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency with digital tools, including IES Thermal Modelling, HevaComp, and other relevant software.
  • Competence in designing for measurement and verification, including experience with commissioning and post-installation performance evaluation.
  • Previous experience working in a design consultancy or within a contractor design environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical standards and building regulations.
  • Strong ability to take ownership of project deliverables, make informed decisions, and work independently.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills, with experience in client-facing meetings.
  • Ability to work within agreed project time and cost constraints.
