Job Title: M&E Clerk of Works
Location: Hampshire (Site-Based when required with Remote Working)
Contract Duration: 3-6 Months
Start Date: ASAP
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Rate: £350-£380 per day
About the Role:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced M&E Clerk of Works to join a Local Authority in Hampshire on a contract basis (Outside IR35). This role involves overseeing mechanical and electrical building services installations across a range of public sector buildings, including schools, care homes, and council facilities.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all M&E works are carried out to the highest quality, in accordance with regulations, specifications, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor M&E installations, ensuring compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and health & safety regulations.
- Identify and report on defects, substandard workmanship, and any deviations from contract requirements.
- Ensure contractors adhere to project timelines and quality expectations.
- Attend progress meetings and provide technical input on M&E issues.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and method statements for compliance.
- Liaise with project managers, consultants, contractors, and local authority representatives to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Produce detailed reports on site progress, issues, and recommended actions.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover procedures, ensuring systems operate as intended.
- Provide expert advice on M&E services, including heating, ventilation, electrical systems, fire protection, and plumbing.
Key Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years in an M&E Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or Building Services Supervisor role.
- Project Experience: Proven track record working on public sector buildings (schools, care homes, council buildings, or healthcare facilities).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical installations, including HVAC, fire alarms, lighting, and power systems.
- Qualifications: HNC/HND or equivalent in Building Services, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or significant relevant experience).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with BS7671, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and CDM Regulations.
- Report Writing: Ability to produce clear and concise reports on site inspections and contractor performance.
- Health & Safety: Strong understanding of H&S legislation and risk management on construction projects.
- Full UK Driving Licence: Essential for regular site visits across Hampshire.
