Job Title: Senior Hydraulic Modeller
Type: Perm / Full time / Hybrid
Salary: £40-55k
Location: South East England, West Midlands, Yorkshire, North East England and Central Scotland
We are looking to recruit skilled individuals to join a leading supplier of specialist hydraulic modelling in the UK. Our hydraulic modelling teams collaborate with various clients, including local authorities, environmental agencies, and international organisations, to deliver flood risk and environmental management studies.

Your Role
As part of the hydraulic modelling team, you will:
- Work on flood risk projects, including:
- Detailed flood mapping studies.
- Flood defence strategies.
- Integrated catchment modelling.
- Surface water flood management.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to:
- Provide technical advice on flood defence designs.
- Support projects that benefit local communities and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical aspects of flood management projects, ensuring high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with senior staff to:
- Develop strategies for ongoing workstreams.
- Identify opportunities for team expansion.
- Champion innovation by:
- Improving project efficiency.
- Sharing new methodologies and tools with the team.
- Engage with clients, modellers, project managers, and design teams.
- Mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support.
- Contribute to business development with technical input on bids.
- Work with Data Science and AI teams to explore next-gen modelling techniques.
The Ideal Candidate
You should:
- Have experience working collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Be self-motivated and support team development.
- Be flexible and able to work across different project teams, both locally and remotely.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering or environmental/earth sciences.
- Chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIWEM) or a commitment to becoming Chartered is highly valued.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in key hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, Infoworks-ICM).
- Ability to deliver innovative solutions for hydraulic challenges.
- Knowledge of fluvial and surface water flood risk policy and management.
- Experience in flood risk management techniques (e.g., options appraisal).
- Strong project management skills, including oversight of hydrological, hydraulic, and environmental inputs.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo).
- Ability to write high-quality technical reports for bids and projects.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of advanced modelling techniques (e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics).
- Familiarity with UK hydrological methodologies (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook Techniques).
- Experience in managing client relationships and project development.
- Ability to collaborate with design teams to create engineering solutions.
- Commercial awareness and ability to manage projects within budget and deadlines.
