With a strong presence across the UK water sector, the business works in partnership with major water companies and contractors, delivering technically challenging projects focused on improving network performance, reducing flooding and addressing environmental challenges.
The team is involved in a diverse portfolio of wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, supporting major AMP8 programmes and regulatory requirements, including WINEP.
The Role
This is an opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery of wastewater hydraulic modelling projects, working across the project lifecycle from feasibility and strategic planning through to detailed design.
You will be responsible for developing, building and verifying wastewater models, undertaking technical reviews and providing modelling expertise to support engineering solutions.
Depending on experience and grade, you will also take responsibility for project management, client engagement, technical leadership and mentoring junior colleagues.
The position offers the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects, develop relationships with established water sector clients and contribute to the continued growth of the team’s modelling capabilities.
Key Responsibilities

- Specify and manage survey requirements, ensuring model inputs and outputs meet project objectives.
- Develop strategic and detailed solutions to address flooding, reduce combined sewer overflow (CSO) spills and improve network performance and resilience.
- Provide hydraulic modelling support to designers during concept, outline and detailed design stages.
- Resolve complex technical modelling challenges and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
- Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, drawings, specifications and supporting studies.
- Work closely with water company clients, contractors and other stakeholders, communicating modelling outputs, technical findings and recommendations.
- Manage project delivery, including programmes, resources, quality assurance, subcontractors and client feedback.
- Support the preparation of bids, including technical proposals, methodologies, cost estimates and programmes.
- Collaborate with colleagues across engineering and environmental disciplines to deliver coordinated project solutions.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to their professional development.
- Build and maintain client relationships, identifying opportunities to develop existing accounts and support the growth of the wastewater modelling portfolio.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management or a related discipline.
- Typically 6-12+ years’ relevant experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling, with technical expertise appropriate to Senior or Principal level.
- Advanced knowledge of hydraulic modelling across wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in InfoWorks ICM.
- Experience in model build, verification, technical review and quality assurance.
- Understanding of wastewater network performance, flooding, CSO spills and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Experience coordinating projects, managing stakeholders and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong technical report-writing, presentation and communication skills.
- Competent in GIS software and spreadsheet-based data analysis.
- HADES experience would be advantageous.
- Coding or scripting experience would be desirable.
