Senior Quantity Surveyor Opportunity – Edinburgh

Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing Cost and Commercial team in Edinburgh.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering some of the East of Scotland’s most significant construction and infrastructure projects, working across a diverse portfolio that includes education, residential, infrastructure, and public sector developments.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, taking ownership of complex projects while contributing to the continued growth of an established regional practice.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial management of major projects from inception through to completion, ensuring robust cost control, effective risk management, and successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering pre-contract and post-contract Quantity Surveying services
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates, budgets, and commercial reports
  • Managing NEC, JCT, and SBCC contracts
  • Monitoring project costs, financial performance, and commercial risk
  • Advising clients on procurement and commercial strategy
  • Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Leading commercial discussions and project reporting
  • Mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors and supporting team development
  • Supporting business development activities and client engagement initiatives
  • Promoting best practice across multidisciplinary project teams

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who possess:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Strong consultancy or client-side Quantity Surveying experience
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale construction, infrastructure, or public sector projects
  • Sound knowledge of NEC and JCT/SBCC contracts
  • Strong cost planning and commercial management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • MRICS status or progress towards chartership is highly desirable
  • A proactive approach with the ability to lead projects and influence commercial outcomes

About the Opportunity

We are currently supporting the search for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading consultancy team delivering major projects across Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded QS to take ownership of high-value, complex schemes across a diverse portfolio including education, residential, infrastructure, and public sector developments.

You will play a key role in delivering best-in-class cost and commercial management services while supporting the growth of a high-performing regional team.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for leading commercial delivery across multiple projects, working closely with clients, design teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading full cost management services from feasibility through to final account
  • Preparing detailed cost plans, estimates, and commercial reports
  • Managing post-contract administration under NEC, JCT, and SBCC contracts
  • Providing commercial advice and risk management strategies across projects
  • Monitoring budgets, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Supporting procurement strategy and tender analysis
  • Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Mentoring and supporting junior Quantity Surveyors
  • Contributing to business growth through bid support and client engagement

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Strong experience in a consultancy or client-side environment
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale construction or infrastructure projects
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC and JCT/SBCC contracts
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • Experience across pre- and post-contract QS duties
  • MRICS chartership (or working towards) highly desirable
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • A proactive and leadership-driven approach
