Construction Engineer (Structures) – Dublin

ROLE PURPOSE

The Construction Engineer (Structures) will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of structural construction works on a major infrastructure project at Dublin Airport. Reporting directly to the Site Agent (Structures), the role will ensure that all structural activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, programme requirements, and airport operational constraints.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on site, supporting construction teams and subcontractors to ensure the successful delivery of reinforced concrete, steelwork, foundation, and associated structural works.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Engineering & Construction

  • Set out, monitor, and oversee the construction of structural elements, including reinforced concrete, foundations, steelwork, and associated infrastructure works.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, technical standards, and construction methodologies.
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance to site teams, subcontractors, and supervisors throughout the construction process.
  • Assist with construction planning, sequencing, and methodology reviews to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues in collaboration with the design, commercial, and project management teams.
  • Ensure all setting out and surveying activities are completed accurately and recorded appropriately.

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Implement and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for structural works.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Undertake site inspections, surveys, and quality checks throughout the construction process.
  • Maintain accurate as-built records and ensure quality documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage non-conformances, corrective actions, and quality-related issues through to close-out.
  • Support client, consultant, and third-party inspections as required.

Health, Safety, Environment & Compliance

  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance on site.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Support the delivery of toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions.
  • Participate in site inspections, audits, and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all airport safety regulations, permit systems, security requirements, and airside working procedures where applicable.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and challenge unsafe behaviours or practices.

Programme & Coordination

  • Support the Site Agent – Structures in managing and monitoring the programme of works.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, logistics teams, and plant operations to achieve programme objectives.
  • Liaise with other project disciplines, including civils, M&E, architectural, and operational stakeholders, to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Identify programme risks, constraints, and interface issues, supporting the development of mitigation measures.
  • Monitor progress and provide accurate updates on productivity, milestones, and deliverables.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, surveys, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare, manage, and close out RFIs, technical queries, and engineering submittals.
  • Produce and maintain as-built records and construction documentation.
  • Support project reporting requirements and provide regular progress updates to the Site Agent.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, handover documentation, and project close-out activities.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Construction Engineer, Site Engineer, or Structural Engineer role within major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete, steelwork, foundations, and structural construction methodologies.
  • Experience working on complex construction projects within highly regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, engineering principles, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively within a live operational environment with strict safety and operational requirements.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working on airport, aviation, transportation, rail, or other high-security infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Irish and UK construction standards, including Eurocodes and IS EN standards.
  • Safe Pass certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Dublin Airport Security Clearance.
  • Experience using surveying and setting-out equipment.
  • Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (CEng, MIEI, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and collaborative project delivery environments.
