Wastewater Modeller
AdvanceTRS Advance Training and Recruitment Services
Technical recruiters for the built environment
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000
Location: UK – Fully Remote
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time
The Opportunity
Advance TRS is working with a specialist international water consultancy to recruit a Wastewater Modeller to join its growing UK operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced wastewater modeller, ideally with around 3-6 years’ experience, to work alongside some of the industry’s leading hydraulic modelling specialists and contribute to projects across both the UK and USA.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on technically challenging wastewater modelling projects while developing specialist expertise in areas that are becoming increasingly important across the water sector.
The role is fully remote, providing flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is not a traditional wastewater modelling role.
The UK team is being established with a specific focus on specialist modelling services, providing the opportunity to work on areas including:
- Hydraulic model development and verification
- Model audit and assurance
- Optimisation and advanced modelling
- Digital transformation and automation
- Water quality modelling
- 2D hydraulic modelling
- Real-time modelling
- Data analysis and visualisation
- US-based wastewater and water projects
The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced technical team and have the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience across different modelling approaches, software and industry practices.
There may also be opportunities to travel to the USA to meet the wider team and work with colleagues on international projects.
The Role
As a Wastewater Modeller, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of wastewater network modelling projects, supporting clients and project teams with technical analysis, model development and solution development.
Responsibilities will vary depending on experience and project requirements, but are expected to include:
- Developing, maintaining and applying wastewater hydraulic models.
- Supporting model build, verification, calibration and validation activities.
- Undertaking hydraulic analysis to understand network performance and identify system issues.
- Using modelling outputs to support root cause analysis and the development of engineering solutions.
- Supporting the development and assessment of wastewater modelling options.
- Interrogating and analysing large datasets to support modelling and engineering decisions.
- Preparing high-quality technical outputs, reports and presentations.
- Working with project teams and clients to communicate modelling findings and recommendations.
- Supporting technical assurance and review of modelling outputs.
- Contributing to the development of innovative modelling approaches and processes.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the UK and USA.
- Developing knowledge of specialist modelling techniques and emerging technologies within the water sector.
Specialist Development
A key attraction of this opportunity is the investment in developing the successful candidate’s technical capability.
Training and development will be provided in areas including:
- Optimizer software
- ArcGIS
- Water quality modelling
- US hydrology
- Advanced modelling and optimisation techniques
- Automation and digital transformation
- 2D and real-time modelling approaches
The successful candidate will also have access to a clear career progression framework, aligned with the organisation’s established career development structure.
This provides a defined pathway for progression as technical expertise, project responsibility and leadership capability develop.
About You
The client is ideally looking for an Intermediate Wastewater Modeller, with approximately 3-6 years’ relevant experience.
Candidates should have:
- Practical experience of wastewater network hydraulic modelling.
- Experience using InfoWorks ICM or a comparable wastewater modelling package.
- An understanding of wastewater network behaviour, hydraulic principles and model development.
- Experience of model build, verification and/or calibration.
- Good analytical and data interrogation skills.
- The ability to interpret modelling outputs and use them to identify issues and support engineering solutions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a remote and internationally distributed team.
- A proactive approach to learning and developing new technical skills.
Experience with the following would be advantageous but is not essential:
- Optimizer
- ArcGIS
- InfoAsset Manager
- MapInfo
- Water quality modelling
- 2D modelling
- Real-time modelling
- Automation or programming, including VBA/Python
- US hydrology or experience working on US water projects
- TOTEX or option appraisal
A relevant degree in engineering, environmental science, geography, mathematics or a related discipline would be beneficial.
Career Development
The role offers a particularly strong opportunity for someone who wants to develop beyond conventional wastewater modelling.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build expertise in advanced modelling, optimisation, water quality, automation, digital transformation and real-time modelling, while working with experienced specialists across the UK and USA.
As the UK operation develops, there will also be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility and contribute to the growth and development of the UK business.
Interested?
This is a genuinely unusual opportunity for a wastewater modeller who wants to broaden their technical expertise and work on international projects rather than following a conventional consultancy career path.
