The Opportunity
Advance TRS is currently working with a leading international water consultancy to recruit two Wastewater Network Modellers to join their growing UK team.
The opportunity would suit experienced wastewater modellers with at least three years’ relevant experience who are looking to develop their technical expertise and progress towards CIWEM chartership.
The successful candidates will join an established specialist modelling team and work on a range of wastewater network projects, providing technical modelling expertise to support the design, operation and improvement of wastewater assets.
The Role
The role will involve hands-on delivery of wastewater network modelling projects, with a particular focus on model building, verification and solution development using InfoWorks ICM.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Building, maintaining and developing wastewater network hydraulic models using InfoWorks ICM.
- Undertaking model verification and historical verification to ensure model confidence and accuracy.
- Developing and assessing modelling solutions to identify network issues and support engineering outcomes.
- Using hydraulic modelling to understand system operation, performance and risk.
- Interrogating and analysing data to support modelling and engineering decisions.
- Applying hydraulic principles and engineering judgement to identify potential solutions.
- Considering the practical buildability and deliverability of proposed solutions.
- Using modelling results to support project teams, stakeholders and wider business decisions.
- Recommending and challenging modelling approaches where appropriate.
- Producing high-quality technical outputs, reports and presentations.
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of modelling processes and procedures.
- Managing individual project delivery risks and communicating these effectively within the wider team.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Supporting and sharing technical knowledge with less experienced colleagues.
Technical Experience
Candidates must have demonstrable hands-on experience of wastewater network modelling using InfoWorks ICM.
In particular, the client is looking for experience in:
- Wastewater network model building.
- Model verification and/or historical verification.
- Solution development.
- Hydraulic analysis and interpretation.
- Understanding wastewater network performance and operational issues.
- Using modelling outputs to support engineering and investment decisions.
InfoWorks ICM experience is essential.
Candidates whose modelling experience is limited to alternative software packages, without demonstrable hands-on InfoWorks ICM experience, will not be considered for these positions.
Experience with the following would also be advantageous:
- InfoWorks CS
- InfoAsset Manager
- MapInfo
- Microsoft Excel and advanced data interrogation
- VBA / Visual Basic
- TOTEX and option development
- Technical report writing and presentation
- Working within established modelling specifications and procedures
Professional Development
The client is particularly interested in candidates who are actively working towards CIWEM chartership and who are looking to continue developing their technical and professional capabilities.
The role provides the opportunity to work within a specialist modelling environment, develop technical expertise and take increasing responsibility for project delivery.
Candidates who are not yet Chartered but are actively progressing towards CIWEM chartership are encouraged to apply.
About You
The successful candidates are likely to have:
- At least three years’ relevant wastewater network modelling experience.
- Strong hands-on experience using InfoWorks ICM.
- Proven experience in model building, verification and solution development.
- A sound understanding of hydraulic modelling principles and wastewater network behaviour.
- The ability to analyse data and interpret modelling outputs accurately.
- An understanding of how modelling solutions translate into practical engineering interventions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with technical colleagues, clients and wider stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience in engineering, environmental science, geography or a related discipline.
- Active progression towards CIWEM chartership.
- The right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
A current driving licence would be advantageous given the potential requirements of the role.
Location & Working Arrangements
The client is particularly interested in candidates based in:
- South London
- Brighton and surrounding areas
- Manchester and surrounding areas
The roles operate on a hybrid basis, with employees typically working 2-3 days per week from the relevant office and the remainder remotely.
Salary & Benefits
The salary range for the roles is £40,000 – £45,000, depending on relevant skills, experience and professional development.
