The Opportunity
Due to continued growth and the award of major long-term water industry frameworks, our client is seeking experienced Senior and Principal Water Quality Modellers to join their expanding team.
You will work as part of a national network of specialists, collaborating with hydrologists, environmental scientists, and engineers to deliver complex and integrated water quality, catchment, and river modelling projects. These roles offer the chance to apply and develop cutting-edge modelling tools and techniques that directly influence key decisions on water quality compliance, storm overflow management, and climate adaptation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technically robust water quality and hydrodynamic modelling projects across river, catchment, and wastewater systems.
- Analyse complex environmental datasets to identify patterns, relationships, and predictive insights.
- Develop integrated river and catchment models, exploring sustainable and nature-based solutions to reduce pollution and enhance water quality.
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver innovative, data-driven environmental and engineering outcomes.
- Contribute to proposals, bids, and business development by providing expert technical input.
- Build and maintain positive client relationships to ensure successful project delivery.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues and early-career professionals within the team.
About You
Essential skills and experience:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, or a related subject.
- Proven experience in water quality or river modelling projects within the UK water industry.
- Proficiency in software such as InfoWorks ICM, MIKE11, and/or Delft3D.
- Understanding of hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and pollutant fate processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution.
- Experience in SOAF, UPM, or integrated catchment modelling studies.
- Coding or scripting experience (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB).
- Background in source apportionment, catchment management, or nature-based solutions.
- Experience mentoring or technically leading project teams.
