Associate Electrical Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Associate Electrical Engineer with a proven track record in delivering multi-disciplinary projects across various sectors. The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with expertise in managing complex projects, overseeing multiple priorities, and providing technical leadership in electrical engineering. As a key technical authority, you will support teams on major projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and play a crucial role in client management. Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders will be vital to success in this role.

Key Purpose

  • Oversee the commercial and resource management of electrical engineering in projects, ensuring cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Champion quality control and compliance, ensuring that all engineering work adheres to industry standards and best practices.
  • Support the growth and development of the electrical team, actively contributing to strategic decision-making, training, and technical excellence initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage time, cost, quality, and resources across projects while ensuring effective communication with teams and leadership.
  • Support the development of project proposals, including enquiry planning, tender reviews, fee estimates, and scope of work definition.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including monitoring fees, managing cost variations, and ensuring commercial objectives are met.
  • Implement cost control measures and resource planning to ensure project profitability.
  • Provide technical reviews and design oversight, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Act as a mentor and technical guide, supporting the professional growth and engagement of engineers and technicians.
  • Serve as the primary client interface on key projects, ensuring exceptional service and project outcomes.
  • Implement strategic initiatives as directed by senior management to align with business goals.

Accountabilities

  • Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes development, feedback, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Oversee staff management in project execution, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and site surveys.
  • Lead project coordination efforts, liaising with design and construction teams to ensure project objectives are met efficiently.

Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Chartered Member of IET or CIBSE (or working towards chartership).
  • Strong experience in multi-disciplinary project delivery within at least one major sector.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams, including apprentices, graduates, and senior engineers, to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships, driving long-term business success.
  • Extensive experience in design, technical detailing, and specification writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire teams, ensuring project success and professional development.

Desirable:

  • Broad experience in multi-sector project delivery across multiple disciplines.
  • Significant expertise in mentoring, coaching, and professional development of engineering teams.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams on complex engineering projects.
  • Strong ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive business and technical excellence.
  • Solid background in client relationship management, ensuring client satisfaction and repeat business.
