Job Title: Senior Hydraulic Modeller
Location: Cardiff, Bristol or Winchester (Hybrid – 2 days per week in-office preferred; flexible/remote considered)
Type: 12-month contract with potential for ongoing contract work

About the Role:

Our client is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to support the successful delivery of a wide range of flood risk management and hydraulic modelling projects. You’ll take a leading role in shaping technical outputs and mentoring junior modellers, with direct impact on the Welsh Water AMP8 framework and other nationally significant initiatives.

You will be instrumental in delivering innovative, nature-based and low-carbon flood solutions, supporting large design teams, and engaging with environmental and water quality challenges on a catchment-wide scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver hydraulic modelling services for major water clients, including Welsh Water AMP8
  • Undertake flood risk assessments and water quality modelling
  • Lead and support junior hydraulic modellers across projects
  • Use software such as Flood Modeller and ESTRY (TUFLOW, ArcGIS/QGIS also desirable)
  • Contribute to project design and build frameworks in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and documentation
  • Support stakeholder and client engagement activities

What Our Client is Looking For:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, geography, or related field
  • Strong experience using Flood Modeller and ESTRY
  • Excellent technical reporting and GIS skills (ArcGIS/QGIS)
  • Experience mentoring junior staff
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for water, flooding, and environmental challenges
  • Working towards or holding professional accreditation

Desirable:

  • Experience in FCERM business cases and optioneering
  • Familiarity with nature-based solutions
  • Digital skills: Python, FME, Excel
  • Confident in presenting technical findings to clients/stakeholders
  • Leadership experience at Senior or Principal level
