About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join a small, dynamic MEP building services consultancy based in Kent. This is a permanent role offering a competitive salary and the chance to develop your skills within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical services for various projects, working alongside a close-knit team of engineers and industry professionals.

As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer, you will assist in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, and small-scale developments. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to further their career and take ownership of a variety of exciting projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Design: Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for building services projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to senior engineers and other team members, helping to deliver projects from inception through to completion.
  • Drawings and Calculations: Produce electrical design drawings, calculations, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and alignment with client requirements.
  • Project Coordination: Assist in the management and coordination of electrical design elements, liaising with other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, structural) to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Client Liaison: Attend meetings with clients and contractors, providing technical support and ensuring project requirements are met.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site surveys and inspections as required, offering technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with industry regulations, including the IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), and other relevant standards.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices, contributing to the technical knowledge and growth of the team.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally within the building services sector.
  • Qualifications: A degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and small power.
  • Software Skills: Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with the IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and other relevant building services standards.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Organisation: Ability to manage your workload effectively, work to deadlines, and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a small, focused team.
  • Driver’s License: A full driving license is desirable, for occasional site visits.

Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services
Location: London
Salary: Circa £40,000
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: 5 days in the office
Eligibility: Must have the right to work in the UK

We’re working with a well-established and growing Building Services consultancy based in London that’s looking to hire an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join their close-knit team.

About the Role:

You’ll be working on a variety of exciting projects across the commercial, residential, education, and mixed-use sectors. The role will see you involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept design through to detailed delivery.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and specification of electrical systems including lighting, power, fire alarms, and data
  • Produce detailed designs using AutoCAD and other relevant tools
  • Work closely with mechanical, architectural, and structural teams
  • Attend client meetings and support project delivery on time and within budget
  • Ensure compliance with UK building regulations and industry standards

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical building services design
  • Strong knowledge of UK standards and regulations
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Dialux/Relux, Amtech)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Right to work in the UK is essential
