Materials Buyer

We are working closely with this contractor, developer and investor to recruit a materials buyer to join an established team working in the residential new build sector.

A business who build long-term partnerships to deliver high quality, value-for-money services to meet customer’s residential place-making ambitions.

They work with local authorities, housing associations and private partners with a vision to become the contracting, investment and development partner of choice for local authorities, housing associations, care homes and private-sector partners in the South.

Main function of the job

To carry out the scheduling and purchase of materials on current construction projects, and to assist in the financial reporting of the same

Specific responsibilities

  • Provide cost advice to project teams
  • Schedule, purchase and negotiate material orders for current projects
  • Cost reporting and forecasting material out turn costs and margin
  • Maximise profit on each project
  • Build and develop supplier relationships
  • Keep up to date with purchasing and material trends
  • Identify risks and opportunities regarding material specifications and supply
  • Continually identify and review priorities in managing workload

Person Specification – qualifications, skills, and experience

  • Previous proven experience in a similar or related role
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the construction industry
  • High level of numeracy with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication skills along with the ability to build successful relationships both internally and externally
  • Proven ability to act on own initiative
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines

Key Stakeholders

An Assistant Buyer would be an integrated part of the project teams that are involved in, providing valuable information, support and feedback to help deliver schemes across the business.

The role would require communication between all site management, commercial staff and the design managers on a regular basis. It would also give opportunity to interact and present to Directors if required.
