An innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Mechanical Building Services to join its growing team in London. The company delivers high-quality integrated design solutions across civil, structural, MEP, and façade disciplines, with a strong focus on environmental integrity, economic viability, and pragmatic engineering.
The consultancy supports both private and public sector clients and is known for delivering efficient, client-focused services throughout all stages of the built environment lifecycle, from design and construction to engineering and ongoing maintenance.
Role Overview:
The Associate Director will be responsible for leading mechanical engineering delivery across multiple projects. This includes ensuring timely, accurate project outcomes, managing communication between engineering and modelling teams, and contributing to business development and strategic leadership. The successful candidate will also mentor and manage engineering staff and support the wider objectives of the business.
General Responsibilities:
Project Role:
- Manage all aspects of a project portfolio as Project Manager and, where appropriate, as Project Director.
- Act as a primary client contact on assigned projects.
- Oversee key project aspects including:
- Timely project delivery
- Client satisfaction
- Financial performance (profitability and cash flow)
- Quality assurance
- Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions.
- Demonstrate commercial awareness and strong stakeholder management.
- Prepare and present project proposals.
- Negotiate and secure fee proposals, including managing additional service requests.
- Assemble and manage internal and external project teams and resources.
- Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery.
Company Role:
- Lead and coordinate regular team meetings.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, including Associates.
- Oversee:
- Staff motivation and development
- Day-to-day workload management
- Resource planning and performance
- Profitability tracking
- Implement company policies related to health and safety, quality, and training.
- Understand and contribute to business performance indicators and strategic objectives.
- Support the development and refinement of company procedures.
Engineering Function:
- Act as a technical authority within the mechanical discipline.
- Advise clients on a range of engineering issues including:
- Concept and detailed design
- Procurement strategies
- Risk and claim assessments
- Possess a strong understanding of analysis tools, CAD standards, and 3D modelling practices.
Business Development:
- Drive business growth by:
- Winning new projects
- Developing new client relationships
- Expanding work with existing clients
- Meet agreed annual business development targets.
- Represent the consultancy in external meetings and industry events.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Chartered Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
- Proven track record in mechanical design and project delivery across multiple building types and procurement methods.
- Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong communication, leadership, and commercial skills.
