Working with a rapidly growing SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) consultancy specializing in building services design, offering innovative solutions across both commercial and residential projects. Based in central London, they are committed to delivering high-quality engineering designs with a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and client satisfaction. They are looking to expand the team with a skilled and motivated Principal or Associate Electrical Engineer to lead and manage electrical design projects across various sectors.
Role Overview:
As a Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer, you will play a key leadership role in managing and delivering electrical design projects for both commercial and residential developments. You will work closely with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the efficient and sustainable design of electrical systems, while mentoring and guiding junior engineers within the team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrical engineering within the building services sector, with strong project management, technical expertise, and client-facing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the electrical design of building services systems for both commercial and residential projects, including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security, and electrical systems integration.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team, ensuring designs are efficient, sustainable, and compliant with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and other engineering disciplines to develop design solutions that meet client requirements, budget constraints, and project timelines.
- Oversee project delivery, ensuring that electrical designs are produced to a high standard, within agreed budgets and deadlines.
- Conduct electrical load calculations, lighting design, and design coordination with other building services disciplines.
- Take responsibility for quality control and ensure designs are in compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Attend client meetings and project coordination meetings to discuss design proposals, provide updates, and manage project expectations.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support in their professional development.
- Review and approve technical documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Manage the production of tender documents and specifications.
- Take responsibility for maintaining and building client relationships, identifying new opportunities for business development.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (essential).
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it (preferred).
- Proven experience (7+ years) in electrical design within the building services sector, with a strong portfolio of commercial and residential projects.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security systems, and renewable energy solutions.
- Experience with relevant industry standards, regulations, and codes (e.g., IET Wiring Regulations, BS 7671, Part L, etc.).
- Strong technical proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Relux, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven experience in project management and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and mentoring junior engineers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and experience using Revit.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems.
- Experience in client-facing roles, including business development and managing client relationships.
