Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Our client is a fast growing contractor, who are looking to develop their in house design team. This is a great opportunity to work on a nice variety of high-profile projects, where you will play a key role within the developing team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop temporary and permanent works designs for both tender stage and contract delivery stages, including shoring, foundations, and ground stability analyses.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to less experienced design team members and manage external design support.
  • Produce and check calculations, drawings, and technical reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Build and continue to develop strong working relationships with clients, both internal and external, designers, and consultancies. Use these relationships to improve design outcomes and identify additional work opportunities.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant procedures and provision of documentation for QHSE and CDM. Ensure design information is timely and of the right quality and level of detail for its purpose.
  • Actively seek and promote modelling and BIM procedures within the project team. Keep up to date with advancements in design, digital technology, and new software.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil/Structural or Ground Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer with ICE or equivalent
  • Proven experience in interpreting ground information for soil stability analyses and current piling practices
  • Proven experience in temporary works design, including shoring, foundations, and ground stability analyses.
  • Commercial awareness (NEC4 & JCT)
  • Compliance with QHSE legislation
  • Compliance with specifications, standards & design
  • Technically competent in Structural Design & Geotechnical works
  • Understanding of the certified management systems ISO 9001 -2015, ISO 14001- 2015 & ISO 45001 – 2018
  • Experience in supervising and managing junior team members, providing technical guidance, and ensuring high standards of work.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with clients and team members.
  • Thorough understanding of H&S, construction techniques, construction plant, products and innovation, environmental constraints, and licensing requirements.

Salary and benefits

  • £65,000 – £70,000 salary
  • Car allowance
  • Matched pension to 10%
