Job Title: Principal Engineer
Salary: £52,000 to £75,000 (dependent on experience)
Location: Hybrid – Swindon, Slough, Crossness, or Maple Lodge
Type: Permanent, hybrid (up to 3 days on-site/office)
About the Role:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to lead design and assurance activities across a transformative £300 million capital infrastructure programme. This is a unique chance to take ownership of major water treatment projects, managing technical delivery from feasibility through to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage design activities from concept through to contract award
- Oversee technical assurance, detailed designs, and design change reviews
- Provide technical guidance to project and commissioning teams
- Act as the contact for CDM regulations, including Designer or Principal Designer roles
- Conduct health & safety site inspections and support continuous improvement
- Apply rigorous risk management and de-risking strategies
- Build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships
- Influence project delivery with commercial insight and engineering leadership
What Our Client is Looking For:
- Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline)
- Chartered engineer status (or actively working toward it)
- Proven experience delivering complex capital engineering projects (up to £100M+)
- Strong decision-making, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated leadership in people and team management
- Valid UK driving licence and access to transport

Eligibility:
You must have the right to work in the UK. This role requires regular site attendance (up to 3 days per week) across key locations and therefore a full driving licence is essential.
