Protection & Commissioning Manager
Overview
A new opportunity is available for a Protection & Commissioning Manager to oversee high-voltage infrastructure projects ranging from 11kV to 132kV. The role involves leading a team responsible for testing, commissioning, and technical assurance across a portfolio of electrical projects, ensuring all work meets the required design, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of projects valued between £10m and £50m, from design through to commissioning
- Develop and implement testing and commissioning policies and procedures
- Provide technical leadership across the delivery team, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards
- Act as the main point of contact for technical assurance throughout the lifecycle of a project
- Produce and review reports on commissioning status, trends, and risks
- Ensure projects are delivered safely on time, and to the agreed quality and performance standards
- Support the tendering process by contributing to technical submissions and reviewing proposals
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant ISO, HSE and quality standards
- Provide support to business development and estimating teams when required
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Strong background in electrical engineering within the utilities or infrastructure sector
- Proven experience working under NEC4 PFC and ECC contracts
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (minimum 5 years’ post-grad experience)
- Chartered status or working towards a professional qualification (e.g. RICS or similar)
- Experience managing the commissioning of large-scale HV systems and substations
- Knowledge of construction contract terms including NEC, IET and JCT
- Strong communication, reporting and team leadership skills
- Familiarity with cost control, forecasting, and compliance within engineering project delivery
