Senior / Principal Civil Design Engineers (Water / Wastewater) – Manchester / Leeds

Overview:

We are currently recruiting experienced Senior & Principal Civil Design Engineers (Water / Waterwater) to support a portfolio of major long-term frameworks within the UK water sector. Candidates with expertise in wastewater and/or clean water networks are especially encouraged to apply.

These opportunities form part of significant national water infrastructure programmes, including a newly awarded, high-value, single-supplier framework in the North West focused on improving environmental outcomes and river health.

The Role:

We are seeking passionate civil engineers to join our established team of Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts, contributing to the development of innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions. This is a pivotal time in the water industry with regulatory drivers and environmental challenges creating exciting opportunities to shape the future of water services.

Working on complex, multi-disciplinary projects, you will have the chance to contribute to the optioneering, outline, and detailed design of essential water and wastewater assets. The team is also engaged across a variety of UK-wide frameworks with major water companies, providing long-term security and the opportunity to make a real impact on communities and the environment.

Preferred location: Manchester or Leeds

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and delivering projects from concept through to detailed design.
  • Designing wastewater and clean water infrastructure including pumping stations, pipelines, and treatment works.
  • Preparing technical reports, appraisals, and business cases.
  • Overseeing and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and technicians.
  • Liaising with clients and other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery.
  • Producing tender and contract documentation for construction.
  • Supporting the delivery of both large and small-scale schemes, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement, innovation, and sustainability in project solutions.
  • Promoting and adhering to corporate HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) standards.

About You:

  • Significant experience in water and/or wastewater infrastructure design.
  • Strong project leadership and delivery capabilities.
  • Confident in multi-disciplinary team coordination and client engagement.
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and industry best practices.
  • Enthusiastic about innovation, sustainability, and mentoring others.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications advantageous).
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
  • Experience working on AMP or similar regulatory frameworks would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with UK water utility design standards and procedures.
