Job Title: Technical Director – Ecology
Salary: £60,000-£70,000 (dependent on experience)
Location: Luton – we can also consider Birmingham, Croydon, Exeter, London, , Manchester, Wakefield (Hybrid working)
Type: Permanent, Full-time
Experience: Minimum 8y post graduate experience / ideally in a full time consultancy setting.

About the Role:
Our client is looking for a Technical Director to lead a team of ecologists based across the UK, working on a wide variety of projects. The role focuses on driving profitable and sustainable growth while managing client relationships, staff development, and project delivery. You’ll be based in Birmingham or another UK location, with some travel and short stays away from home required.

Key Responsibilities:
·Lead and deliver the ecology sector business plan, ensuring staff capabilities meet client needs.
·Identify and pursue new business opportunities in collaboration with sector leaders.
·Oversee bids and proposals, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and commercial reviews.
·Manage and mentor team members, supporting their professional development.
·Represent the team’s services internally and externally, enhancing visibility and reputation.
·Manage projects with strong financial oversight and commercial awareness.
·Lead technical work on key projects, ensuring safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
What Our Client is Looking For:
Qualifications:
·Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Ecology, Environmental Management, or related discipline.
·Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
·Protected species licences (particularly for bats).
·A valid CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
Experience:
·Minimum 15 years of consultancy experience working on development and infrastructure projects.
·Extensive knowledge of UK habitats and protected species, with relevant survey and mitigation licences.
·Proven track record in developing pragmatic mitigation solutions for clients.
·Experience managing teams and supporting business development initiatives.
Skills:
·Excellent understanding of UK wildlife legislation and ecological survey methods.
·Strong project management, analytical, and organisational skills.
·Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
·Full UK driver’s licence.
