Job Title: Water Quality / Hydraulic Modeller
Salary: £45,000 to £65,000 (dependent on experience)
Location: Wallingford, Coleshill, Newcastle, Haywards Heath – Hybrid / Flexible Working
Type: Permanent, Full Time

About the Role:
Our client is seeking a skilled Water Quality / Hydraulic Modeller to support a major five-year water quality modelling framework (AMP8) for a UK water company. The role involves catchment modelling using SIMCAT, Water Cycle Studies, assessing water resources and supply for future developments, and communicating findings to stakeholders including water companies, local authorities, and the environmental regulator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build water quality models using MIKE+ and analyse results to industry standards.
  • Update SIMCAT catchment models, run simulations, process and analyse results.
  • Complete Water Cycle Study assessments and prepare technical reports.
  • Use Environment Agency tools such as River Quality Planning (RQP) and National Highways HEWRAT for water quality assessment.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including Environment Agency, Natural England, local authorities, water companies, and National Highways.
  • Develop code-based efficiency tools to enhance modelling processes.

What Our Client is Looking For:

  • Experience in water quality modelling.
  • Collaborative and flexible team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communicator able to present technical findings to colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of hydrodynamics and water quality processes.
  • Proficient in GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS).

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience with MIKE+/MIKE11, SAGIS-SIMCAT, RQP.
  • Experience with other hydraulic modelling packages (Tuflow, Flood Modeller, InfoWorks ICM).
  • Coding experience (Python, R).
  • Hydrological or rainfall-runoff modelling experience.
  • Working towards chartered status.
  • Understanding of water company planning documents (water resources, drainage, wastewater management).

Eligibility:

  • Relevant degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Geography, Environmental Science, Geoscience, Chemistry, or related field
