My client is keen on securing a candidate for a role responsible for team leadership and technical delivery of Environmental Services based in Leeds.

They have a particular focus on water-related projects, including fluvial and coastal flood defence and other infrastructure schemes, such as habitat creation initiatives, river restoration and WFD schemes. They have recently been successful in being appointed to a range of the Environment Agency’s national frameworks.

The role will be as a Senior Environmental Advisor working as part of the team in their Leeds office. The role will be supporting their Design and Build Joint Venture and the wider company where there is a wealth of interesting and challenging projects.

You will be involved in a range of projects both within their Joint venture where they design and build projects.

Some of the schemes you may work on may include:

  • Flood Risk Management
  • Mine water treatment
  • River restoration
  • Natural Flood Management
  • Carbon and sustainability assessments.

You will be supporting project teams with timely environmental advice and information into the design and project planning process through the coordination of technical specialists and your own experience. This will include taking a project from conception, optioneering through the assessment and design stages onwards to construction and into an operational state. This will involve delivering planning applications, EIAs, permits and consulting with regulators and stakeholders.

The role will focus on assessing the environmental impacts of flood alleviation and water treatment schemes so some knowledge of specialist inputs such as Environmental Management, Water Quality, Ecology, Landscape, Heritage would be advantageous. Experience working within the construction sector would also be beneficial. You will work closely with design and engineering teams to achieve the best possible environmental outcomes for each project this includes driving into the project, carbon reductions and offsetting, biodiversity net gain and social value.

You Will:

  • Manage Planning and Environmental Impact assessments both statutory and non-statutory.
  • Conduct Site inspections and Audits, record positive interventions, incidents and help with Root Cause Analysis where necessary.
  • Liaise with the project teams and potentially the client to determine the scope of environmental requirements.
  • Project manage scope and costs to agreed budgets when dealing with specialists, be commercially and contract aware.
  • Organise environmental surveys from a range of specialists, Ecology, Contaminated Land, Hydro-ecology, Heritage etc
  • Undertake liaison and consultation with stakeholders and regulators.
  • Ensure that all findings from these surveys are timely completed and communicated to project teams in verbal and formal written reports.
  • Ensure that the design of schemes has considered all relevant environmental legislation and client requirements.
  • Drive innovations for environmental benefits, reduction in carbon, promote biodiversity net gain and social value into projects.
  • Conduct handover meetings with construction teams.
  • Support site managers during construction with any environmental issues on site
  • Help lead the way by taking on initiatives to incorporate sustainable development into our systems; examples may include carbon reduction, circular economy and waste.

The Right Candidate:

  • Extensive proven experience working in an environmental field preferably in Environmental Impact Assessment or construction environmental management.
  • A broad knowledge of the environmental consultancy sector and a proven track record in environmental delivery (knowledge of EIA, landscape design/assessment and/or ecological consultancy would be desirable).
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and full membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), the Landscape Institute or the Society for the Environment (SocEnv).
  • Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Systems is advantageous.
  • A valid UK driving licence is required for this role.

The role involves the following:

In depth knowledge of hydrological models at a variety of scales (such as GloFAS) is key for this role.

The research and development nature of our clients’ software means that there is always the opportunity to further improve the methods and data used in the system. You will take a lead role in developing the science used in our clients’ software, in particular the hydrological models used by the system.

You will work closely with a team of scientists and software developers located in several offices and the role will require liaising with clients, projects managers and other team members.

You will be involved in mentoring and supporting the technical development of less experienced colleagues in the team.

Qualifications and experience

Who we are looking for:

You will have an environmental or physical science related qualification, at PhD or equivalent level. Applicants should be chartered or show a desire to work towards becoming chartered. Our client will support you through their professional mentoring programming to gain chartership if required.

Strong and proven communication skills are a prerequisite for this position.

You will have the ability to work on your own and as part of a team, have experience of problem solving and communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with colleagues and clients. Strong time management skills are essential.

  • Knowledge of hydrology and rainfall-runoff models covering a range of scales, with particular emphasis on broadscale modelling and linking to forcing data.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The role of Senior is to lead the preparation and maintenance of integrated and co-ordinated project programmes, enabling resource and material requirements to be forward planned to meet project deliverables, using Asta software. The postholder will be expected to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the delivery team and also deal with multiple clients directly and professionally.

Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Senior Planner will be expected to work autonomously and independently, setting high personal standards and delivering reports in a timely and accurate manner to the project team and client alike. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop comprehensive, logic linked, project programmes for projects incorporating resource loading/forecasting, materials planning, cost-loading and earned value forecasting and reporting.
  • Continuously monitor the programmes prepared to accurately reflect progress and maintain accurate earned value and resource data for internal and external purposes.
  • Identify critical paths and ensure action plans are developed and implemented to maximise project quality, cost and delivery objectives.
  • Through accurate reporting on Work Package progress, co-ordinate all functional activity on the project and ensure that problems and bottlenecks are anticipated and resolved in a timely manner to prevent negative impact on the project.

Job Role:

This exciting role will see you report to the Principal Digital Engineer and work alongside my client’s in-house design and construction teams, playing a key role in developing their BIM capability within very challenging timescales.

Your main responsibilities will be to produce regulation-compliant and cost-effective designs that meet business specifications using modern production techniques. Requirements:

This role is suited to an ambitious professional who wants to build upon their BIM and design experience. You should preferably have a degree in mechanical or civil engineering or another similar discipline with previous experience in the Water/Wastewater sector.

Your previous experience will also have given you an awareness of health and safety, including CDM issues, design risks and ideally have a good understanding of PAS 1192 and ISO 19650 though not essential.

You’ll need to be proficient in at least one of the common CAD or BIM design software packages, such as Autodesk Civils 3D, Navisworks or Revit, with the ability to pick up new software quickly too.

As a Senior Civil Engineer with knowledge of the utilities sector, you’ll bring the technical expertise and experience to execute our clients’ large capital expenditure projects to meet expected criteria. You’ll play a central role in how they plan, design and build the structures and facilities that provide clean drinking water to their customers in the most sustainable way.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the technical deliverables on projects working under direction from the Project Manager and in accordance with requirements set out by the Lead Civil Engineer. You could be producing or checking technical reports; providing key inputs into programmes, estimates or contract preparations; or delivering technical designs in line with specifications. You’ll also line manage, train and delegate to other Civil Engineers within the Engineering team. So, you’re someone who can mentor, encourage participation and influence outcomes.

Whether you’re exercising engineering judgement in difficult situations or minimising technical issues on projects, you’ll have the persistence and ability to see the job through. What you enjoy most is the challenge and reward that come with delivering sizable, multi-disciplinary projects and creating the way to achieving the best outcomes.

What you’ll deliver

  • You’ll be responsible for the technical delivery on projects
  • You’ll help to line manage junior Engineers within the team
  • You’ll promote knowledge sharing and mentor less experienced engineers
  • You’ll produce and / or check technical reports
  • You’ll provide appropriate inputs for programmes, estimates and contract preparation
  • You’ll advise and oversee designs in line with specifications and most appropriate Health and Safety Legislation, with input from the Lead Civil Engineer
  • You’ll liaise with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to successful project delivery

What you’ll bring to the role

  • You’ll be Chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or an appropriate professional institution
  • You’ll have a Degree in Engineering or equivalent training and experience;
  • You will understand Health and Safety regulations that affect the area of work
  • You’ll have a highly collaborative approach with the ability to influence outcomes and others.
