We require a Health & Safety Advisor who can join the site-based team to manage all health & Safety works on various road infrastructure projects. To this end you must be able to demonstrate recent, relevant project experience monitoring and implements these procedures in the construction sector.

Key responsibilities/ knowledge include but are not limited to:

  • Providing Health and Safety Lead with relevant information, support and deputising as required
  • Maintaining own level of knowledge and competency in relation to H&S management and responsibilities
  • Undertaking site H&S inspections and audits and completion of on-line reports for each site visited

My client Is looking to secure the services of an experienced Safety & Risk Consultant on a permanent basis working across projects in the South-East region.

Role includes:

Provision of principal designer role, CDM advisor and health & safety consultancy professional services to both internal and external clients. Further to this it is foreseeable that there will be the opportunity to deliver health & safety training, undertake audits and risk studies.

  • To discharge the duties of the principal designer or the CDM advisor role on a wide variety of projects across the South East Region.
  • Provide technical guidance to site based and/or office based staff and less experienced colleagues;
  • Visit sites to assess existing site hazards, working closely with clients to ensure information passed onto design and construction teams; maintain client relationship on a day-to-day basis, championing client’s safety programmes and set an example on behaviour, produce statutory documentation e.g. pre-construction information and health & safety file, alongside the appraisal of contractor’s documentation;
  • Attend design/progress meetings and undertaking site audits/inspections during the construction phase and the potential to chair buildability meetings, plus hazard meetings e.g. HAZCON’s or HAZOP’s.

Essential

  • NEBOSH Construction or equivalent qualification
  • At least 3 years’ experience of health and safety management within the railway and/or construction industry, ideally within a multi-disciplinary project management environment.

  • A sound understanding and experience of Quality Management Systems and Standards

Role & Responsibilities

  • Manage Environmental Improvement Plan within DI&S
  • Liaise with project teams and supply chain to achieve optimum balance between environmental improvement and project efficiencies.
  • Maintain company presence at RISF and other Network Rail forums and industry meetings.
  • Produce and maintain project Environmental Management Plan (DEMPs & ESMP’s) and Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP’s)
  • Produce environmental element of Project Inductions
  • Support social and sustainability initiatives on all projects
  • Produce figures for Company Management Reviews
  • Produce Incident Response Plan and give briefings to project personnel
  • Support environmental incident investigations
  • Co-ordinate and promote project environmental objectives and initiatives on nominated projects
  • Manage project environmental training matrices and deliver
  • Training for Waste Management, Waste Champion, Noise and Vibration, Ecology Awareness and Pollution Prevention & spill response on nominated projects
  • Manage project consent register for nominated projects and apply and manage consents

This is an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Advisor to join a highly reputable Principal Contractor in their Rail division. You be working for one of the main players in the very busy Rail Sector. The company has grown year on year after winning large packages of works in South East England.

The Environmental Advisor will implemented environmental procedures and processes, providing guidance and advice across rail projects to ensure environmental issues are managed appropriately on site.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision of advice and guidance to the projects on managing a wide range of environmental issues.
  • Advise projects to ensure that environmental risks and opportunities realised.
  • Ensure implementation of company environmental procedures and processes on projects.
  • Ensure implementation of any client-specific project requirements.
  • Review of and implementation of Client environmental standards,
  • First point of contact for Advisor queries.
  • Carry out environmental inspections for allocated projects.
  • Track environmental commitments within the projects.
  • Update environmental management plans if required.
  • Produce environmental reports / monthly comms input as required.
  • Responsibility for assessing waste compliance and third-party checks on Site Waste Management Plan.
  • Data gathering for the periodic Key Performance Indicator reports.
  • Assist with delivery of on-site environmental training.
  • Attend meetings as required to support Stage 1 and Stage 2 projects.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Environmental, geography degree (or equivalent)
  • Member of IEMA or IEEM

  • Awareness of ISO 14001:2015
  • Engaged in the sustainability agenda.
  • Competency to manage the supply chain, contractors, customers, and stakeholders.
