OVERALL PURPOSE:

Carry out work as directed safely and efficiently. Responsible for assisting the Senior Installer / Technician to achieve their duties as required in a safe and responsible manner.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR MAIN TASKS:

  1. Undertake work as directed, ensuring acceptable productivity and workmanship of all team members which may include Agency / Sub-Contractors on site. Ensuring that all work complies with current quality and group / line standards.
  2. Ensure all work is carried out taking due cognisance of personal safety and safety of colleagues.
  3. Ensure all site operations are carried out, and in accordance with standards.
  4. Undertake TSC, Lookout, EO, Points Op duties as required, together with other relevant safety duties.
  5. Use power tools and portable plant where certified to do so.
  6. Carry out / assist in S.M.T.H work as required.
  7. Deputise for Senior Installer as required.
  8. To work independently as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years S&T work experience.
  • Signalling modules SMTH, Mod 3C, Mod 5 desirable.
  • Able to drive or willing to learn.
  • PTS.
  • Handsignaller, Look-out, ES, EO and PC desirable.
  • Good mechanical skills.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • IRSE Licensed or working towards.

Purpose of job


  • Responsible to the Project Manager for the day-to-day implementation and delivery of the project(s).
  • Ensure full compliance with company’s operational procedures and Principal Contractors Licence (PCL) and Network Rail Standards as applicable to the works.
  • Ensure full compliance with London Underground Contract QUENSH Conditions and LU Operational Standards as applicable to the works.

Principal responsibilities


    • To understand and ensure compliance with the company health & safety policy, PCL, QUENSH, operations, quality and environmental procedures as applicable to the project.
    • To ensure that those working under their control understand and comply with the company health & safety policy, PCL, QUENSH, operations, quality and environmental procedures as applicable to the project.
  • Planning, Programming, & Productivity.
    • To ensure that all management, labour, plant & transport resources are identified, and fully utilised throughout the project.
    • To continually identify and implement opportunities for operational improvement in the areas of both cost and programming.
    • To identify the training requirements of all project staff. Arrange training courses with the training or assurance departments as appropriate.
  • Customer & Public Relations.
    • To understand and comply with the details of the contract under which they are working.
    • To monitor and ensure that works are carried out within time & budget and to customer’s requirements.
    • To liaise with project management, clients, other contractors and the general public as demanded by the project.

    • Other tasks as directed by the Project Manager.
    • Delegate tasks to sub ordinates in line with their capabilities.

Experience, knowledge, qualifications and training


  • Essential
    • 5 years’ experience in the railway engineering environment
    • Proven record in man management.
    • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
    • Knowledge of Network Rail and London Underground rules and regulations as applicable to the role.
    • Understanding of The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations
    • Detailed knowledge of the Safe System of Work planning process.
    • In depth understanding of the CDM regulations.
    • High degree of computer literacy.
    • Knowledge & understanding of risk assessment processes and techniques
    • Detailed knowledge of method statement construction.
    • Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification
    • LU Basic Track Awareness Certification (where applicable to the project)
    • SMSTS Certification
  • Desirable
    • In depth understanding of contract tendering.
    • Degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline.
    • NR Individual Working Alone (IWA) Certification
    • LU IWA Certification (where applicable to the project)
    • CSCS Black Card

Safety Management Responsibility.


  • Ensure that all staff under his or her control understand their safety responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all staff comply with the demands of the PCL, QUENSH and operational, quality and environmental procedures.
  • Ensure that the activities of the project(s) comply with all relevant safety legislation, taking advice from the Assurance team as required.

An opportunity to join a tier one signalling contractor as a lead project engineer. You will be required to be technically responsible for the accurate, complaint, timely and cost- effective delivery of electrical design solutions that are allocated. As the lead power engineer, you must have knowledge of signalling power, Network Rail/ London Underground standards and electrical design, testing and installation within the railway.

Job description
▪ To be technically responsible for the accurate, compliant, timely and cost-effective delivery of electrical design solutions that are allocated.
▪ To provide electrical and power technical support to the business
▪ To act as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for power or Power Project Engineer on small to medium allocated schemes of work
▪ To support the Power Department in undertaking internal and external technical investigations
▪ To act as technical contact and liaison with clients and sub-contractors in order to resolve outstanding technical issues
▪ To manage timely delivery of work package design, implementation, testing and commissioning
▪ To monitor contracts involving electric and power ensuring they are technically compliant with relevant group and company standards

Mandatory:
