Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Risk Engineer to support the delivery of major rail infrastructure programmes. You will play a key role in the development, management, and assurance of project risk across complex, high-value portfolios, working closely with senior stakeholders and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage project and programme risk registers in line with rail standards
- Lead quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, including QRA and scenario analysis
- Support change control processes, ensuring risks associated with change are identified, assessed, and mitigated
- Utilise ARM (Active Risk Manager) to manage and report risk data across projects
- Facilitate risk workshops with multidisciplinary teams and supply chain partners
- Provide clear, concise risk reporting and dashboards for senior leadership and client stakeholders
- Present risk positions, trends, and mitigation strategies to senior management and governance boards
- Ensure alignment with enterprise risk frameworks and governance requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in risk management processes and tools
Key Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Risk Engineer within the UK rail sector.
- Strong understanding of rail risk management, including integration with programme controls and delivery environments
- Experience managing risk and change within complex infrastructure projects
- Proficiency in Active Risk Manager (ARM)
- Knowledge of enterprise risk frameworks and governance processes
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leadership
- Confident in presenting complex risk data in a clear and structured manner
Desirable
- Experience on major rail programmes (e.g. enhancements, renewals, or major projects)
- Familiarity with NEC contracts and their interaction with risk and change processes
- Background in planning, project controls, or engineering
