What Will You Do?

Reporting to the Cables Lead Engineer, you will produce underground cable system (UGC) design studies to support construction and consultancy projects. Responsibilities may include:

– Preparing Cable System Design Summary reports, Cable Rating reports, Cable Bonding schemes, and Induced Voltage calculations.

– Conducting Cable Forces and Cable Sizing calculations for various installation and operational scenarios.

– Designing Cable Pulling plans, performing calculations, and reviewing installation drawings.

– Selecting materials and accessories, producing the Bill of Quantities for projects and tenders.

– Coordinating with suppliers, reviewing product designs and type test certificates, and providing technical support to the procurement team.

Our client is currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their technical team. The selected candidate will hold a senior position within the team and will be responsible for the design of geotechnical packages throughout the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and cost evaluations to the finalisation and verification of formal design packages for retaining solutions.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer position involves interpreting ground investigation and client drawings to produce comprehensive design reports. Main Duties:

  • Provide specialist knowledge in drainage and highway design, including 3D surface modelling and hydraulic drainage design.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, with Chartered status or actively working towards it.

What does the role involve?

You will provide principal technical specialist advise and direction into all water resource related outputs. These can be regulatory, statutory, and internal plans as well as inter-company and cross-sector. A key output is modelling and advising on the potential impacts of drought and climate change on the future operation of water production assets and building this into changes to regulatory and stakeholder output.

You will play a key role influencing on national and regional policy with the Environment Agency and other regulators and stakeholders.

This role is fundamental in developing leading edge water resource management planning tools and processes to guarantee the sustainable operation and performance of water production assets.

You will specialise in the dynamics of catchment functions, run-off, river flow, the impacts of climate change, yield and resource management. You will also understand the performance of rivers and reservoirs and the overall performance in relation to supply and demand balance both now and in the future, to ensure long-term sustainability of the company.

Some of the key role responsibilities include the following –

* Provide technical expertise on all aspects of hydrology, water resources modelling and climate change

* Ensure business understanding of key operational and strategic asset risks and priorities.

* Support the preparation of the Annual Water Resource Management Plan reports and reviews and audits by Ofwat and the EA and the preparation of the 5 yearly Water Resource Management Plan, as part of the AMP process.

* Ensure water resource planning base models are calibrated for use in water resource planning and water production planning.

* Develop reservoir control rules

* Provide specialist support to operations and compliance over complex licence interpretation

* Carry out hydrological analyses and modelling to support Water Framework Directive compliance.

* Provide technical support to production planning team, compliance team, and others across the business, and to the Water resources modeller and planner.

* Provide modelling input and data analysis to support applications for drought orders and permits, and advice on drought management

What skills are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have at least a Masters degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering or similar and must have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. This experience could include climate change analyses and modelling, water resources analyses and modelling or working in a similar role in a regulated environment.

You will have a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets. You will have previous experience in regards strategic thinking, establishing clear strategic direction and implementing plans to deliver.

A confident communicator, you will have strong leadership and influencing skills and be credible in building up excellent stakeholder relationships with external organisations e.g. other Water Companies, regulators and funders. Previous experience of corporate presentations and the production of technical reports is essential.

You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, a strong team player with excellent organisational skills.

You will have excellent problem-solving skills and show a positive attitude to resolving issues, with the ability to coach others on technical issues.
