About The Role

Our client is looking to strengthen their SHEQ team with an Environmental Advisor for their ESD joint venture framework. Based in the Stepps office, you will travel throughout the Central Belt region, supporting and assisting in the delivery of project environmental objectives and targets.

You will report directly to the Head of Health and Safety, and your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking monthly SSERs on projects in line with the SSER Schedule environmental aspects of the project. This will also include any Parent Company focus areas as and when required.
  • Carrying out advisory visits monthly on projects to provide support and assistance to projects.
  • Assisting and reviewing outputs from initial site screening assessments with design and preparation teams.
  • Leading design-based environmental audits on projects within the preparation and design phase.

  • Managing liaison with the client’s regional environmental advisors (SW SSD Environment).
  • Leading delivery of ESD Environmental training, including BMS for the business, as and when required.

About The Candidate

  • Degree level qualification; MSc preferred in a relevant subject area.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body preferred.
  • Good experience of working in construction across the full lifecycle.
  • Experienced in environmental auditing and working with environmental regulations, e.g., SEPA / SNH.

  • Provide support to civil design staff
  • Provide support to help develop junior staff
  • Ensure designs take account of environmental issues
  • Assist in improving processes and procedures

Essential skills:

  • Strong structural engineering design background, including technical detailing for Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment Projects
  • A proven track record of structural engineering within the water with a desire to work in a design and build environment
  • Good knowledge of structural analysis and ability to use Microsoft Excel and design software such as StaadPro and Tekla TEDDS
  • Degree qualified in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Good track record for the design of water retaining structures to construction standard using Eurocodes
  • Good working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
  • This role is office based but may require some travelling within the UK occasionally.

Desirable skills:

  • Chartered or nearing chartership
  • Experience of working for a global organisation.
  • Experience of working with remote/dispersed teams.
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
  • Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
  • Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques
  • Wider experience of structural design across the construction industry
