  • As a senior member of our Structural Engineering team you will be leading the delivery of high-quality structural engineering projects across a variety of projects across sectors including water and energy.   • You will report directly to our Specialist Structural Engineering Technical Lead; developing our structural knowledge and capability, and supporting internal opportunities in sectors beyond water and energy.
  • In this role you will carry out and take the lead on structural engineering design for concrete, steel and masonry structures. You will also carry out structural inspections and produce accurate reports that define requirements for asset maintenance and modification to meet client and regulatory standards

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • A proven track record of structural engineering within the water sector with a desire to work in a consultancy environment
  • Good knowledge of structural analysis and ability to use Microsoft Excel and design software
  • Degree qualified in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Good track record for the design of water retaining structures to construction standard using Eurocodes
  • Good working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
  • This role is office based but may require some travelling within the UK occasionally.

Key Purpose

To provide senior hydrogeological technical expertise for underground water sources (UGS) assets. This includes test boreholes (TBH) and access shafts (ACS). Support Water Assets Strategy and Planning, Water Supply Operations, Project Delivery, and Water Resource Plans. Conduct and maintain UGS asset condition and performance reviews to inform risk processes, asset needs, and business planning. Ensure compliance with water quality, supply-demand, security of supply, and environmental regulations.

Accountabilities

  • Lead site-specific UGS desk studies, field tests, and produce technical reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Facilitate and interpret down-hole UGS CCTV and geophysics investigations.
  • Survey and review UGS headworks, below ground asset conditions, raw water quality, and UGS performance data.
  • Maintain a structured UGS asset condition assessment framework, addressing risks, needs, and asset lifespan, and support associated risk meetings.
  • Identify UGS maintenance needs, assist the broader assets team in decision-making and business planning processes.
  • Provide hydrogeological support for UGS projects, attend project delivery meetings, and advise on asset information and potential risks.
  • Liaise with the Environment Agency and Local Authorities, and respond to technical or UGS-related queries both internally and externally.

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years, with at least 3 years in a water company or water supply-related work. Additional experience required if lacking a relevant MSc.
  • Skills: Strong planning and project management abilities, excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with hydrogeological software, MS Excel, Word, and GIS tools like MapInfo/ArcGIS/QGIS.

Risk & Compliance

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of key regulatory bodies, their functions, and interactions with water companies.
  • Performance Indicators: Familiarity with KPIs, performance indicators, or outcome delivery incentives is beneficial.
