Role

Job Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary / Rate: £50-£60 /hour
Location: Reading (UK wide considered)

Our client is a reputable consultancy looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the Engineering and Design Services team on the Thames Water Framework.

The role will contribute to solution development, need identification, definition and validation, and the identification of operational and delivery efficiencies. The successful candidate will also provide technical support for strategic planning, price reviews, and interactions with regulators and key external stakeholders.

About the Role:

  • Complete the design of complex mechanical processes for water and wastewater treatment.
  • Support and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in resolving engineering challenges on operational plant assets.
  • Undertake root cause analysis of equipment failures to reduce future occurrences.
  • Provide technical input into project definition briefs, feasibility studies, and optioneering.
  • Contribute to asset surveys, condition assessments, whole-life costing, and preliminary designs.
  • Deliver technical assurance and sign-off throughout project delivery, including handover and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering-based regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on best practice for scope of works to Thames Water.
  • If required, manage and be accountable for a delivery team, including preparing outputs for sign-off.

About You:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Chartered Status or equivalent (if relevant) and membership of the relevant institution.
  • Minimum 6 years post-graduate experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in the water industry on relevant projects.
  • Demonstrable ability to operate at a senior level:
  • Able to take on significant elements of the required activity personally, with minimal supervision.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and leadership.
  • Capable of managing delivery teams and ensuring quality outputs
