What does the role involve?

Our clients Flooding and Water Management team works on a variety of flood protection projects across the UK, in both the public and private sectors. Whilst they primarily consider ourselves to be flood risk managers the role can also involve hydrology; hydraulic modelling; GIS; client and regulator management; optioneering; economic assessments; schematic, outline and detailed design; project and budget responsibility; site visits and supervision; auditing and quality assurance; input to bidding; and other commercial activities. You will develop a well-rounded knowledge of all these activities in a multidisciplinary environment.

Your role will involve both desk-based and field-based geomorphological surveys and analyses as part of a variety of projects, ranging from infrastructure projects to river restoration schemes. You will also assist in one or more of the areas mentioned above.

To be successful in this role you will:

-Hold a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. geomorphology, catchment dynamics and management, environmental science, physical geography, etc; minimum 2:1).

-Be chartered, or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body (C.WEM C.GEOG C.Eng).

-Have a minimum of three to five years industry experience (Consultant/Senior grade).

-Demonstrate knowledge and experience of standard hydraulic modelling packages.

Outside IR25 Contract role

Advance TRS are working with a major engineering consultant who are working on the northern phase of HS2 (Phase 1). They are looking to hire a number of engineers to be based in Birmingham on long term contracts. The roles are across a few different disciplines, which include: bridges or viaducts, drainage, utilities and earthworks.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Construction Phase Support (CPS) Delivery Area Technical Lead.
  • Will be the Designer’s Site Representative and will coordinate directly with the Contractor’s design and construction delivery teams.
  • Will be responsible for adherence to relevant CPS Management Plan and Contractor’s construction management plans.
  • Will provide technical support to the Contractor during the construction programme. This support will include:
    • Reviewing and responding to Contractor’s proposal for design changes.
    • Reviewing non-conformance reports and providing input the acceptance process and/or providing technical advice for proposed remedial work.
    • Reviewing Contractors Inspection and Testing Plans (ITPs)
    • Witnessing Contractor’s testing and inspections to support the construction assurance process.
    • Reviewing construction records to verify design intent and support the construction assurance process.
    • Coordination with the Contractor to ensure that FCRs, NCRs and redline drawings are configured and provided to the Site Support Team for development of as-built drawings.
  • Reporting/raising Early Warning Notices and the need for Contractors’ Instructions for out-of-scope work.
  • Will attend regular meetings with the Contractor to provide updates on construction team queries and specific additional resource that may be required to support any construction-based activities.
  • Identifies any additional technical resources that will be required based on a rolling 3-month lookahead to the Delivery Area Technical Lead and any other resource needs that become apparent at short notice.

Key Requirements

  • Must have good design experience in one of the following areas: bridges, drainage, utilities or earthworks – unfortunately those without it cannot be considered.
  • MEng/BEng/MSc/BSc in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or similar.
  • Ideally strong experience of working for a designer on site previously – consideration will be given to those without it.
  • Experience of Eurocodes, British Standards, DMRB and Network rail standards.

The Southern region of a major public sector framework main contract construction group have secured a new build education scheme in Brentwood, Essex. They have identified the need to recruit a Senior Project Manager to lead the full project life cycle of the scheme which consists of new build education teaching facility and offices. Responsibilities:

Our client is looking for an experienced individual of high calibre to lead projects for the flood risk and drainage teams across a range of activities such as river, coastal and flood defence design, hydraulic modelling and hydrology assessment, fluvial geomorphology assessment, water framework direct assessments and the development of business cases. They work across a diverse range of clients delivering challenging infrastructure projects for the private and public sector.

Projects can range in size from £10k commissions up to £100m schemes covering flood risk projects for defence, transport, local government, infrastructure, commercial, industrial and residential development. You will work independently and proactively on technical aspects from a project’s inception, determining client briefs, to the delivery and close out of projects in accordance with best practice.

You will lead projects as a project manager and support junior colleagues throughout the delivery of projects, including client facing and leadership roles. Electrical Supervisor

My client is looking for an Electrical Site Supervisor covering the Kent area, working across Southern Water projects including CMDP.

Generally, the site hours will be between 7:00am – 5:00pm and will be an hourly paid position and will be a Permanent role.

Travel pay will also be included at 100% of the hourly rate. The role will include a van and a fuel card although there may be a wait for the van due to the current climate. If this is the case, they will pay 45p per mile up to 10k miles and 20p per mile thereafter.

By calculating the additional benefits, the overall salary will be in the region of £50,000-£55,000 per annum.

The role will involve the following:

Advance TRS Construction are again assisting this main contractor organisation to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Berkshire .

Ideal candidates will be eager to grow and progress with vast amounts of opportunity to continue learning off an extremely experienced commercial team. This candidate must demonstrate a recent track history of employment as an assistant and/or trainee quantity surveyor. You will have held hands on commercial responsibilities on various construction projects including new build and refurbishment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely as part of the Commercial team to ensure commercial viability of contracts.
  • Interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports produced by internal cost systems.
  • Be involved in the procurement of Subcontract partners including preparation of bid enquiry documentation and critical evaluation of bids.
  • Administer contractual documents to both the Client and Subcontractors.
  • Assist in the management of change by maintaining detailed schedules of values and ensuring the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Collate and calculate information required to assist the wider Commercial team in the production and maintenance of a detailed cost to complete including schedules of Subcontractor liabilities.
  • Liaise with operational and engineering staff to maintain site records.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Able to communicate effectively with site team and subcontractors.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • A self-starter with a flexible but robust approach, a good team player and able to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work alone without constant direction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
  • A working knowledge of Quantity Surveying through job experience or training
  • Ideally Degree / HND(C) Level qualification
  • Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.
