Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, along with relevant experience in either geotechnical consultancy or as a designer with a ground engineering contractor
  • Membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) would be considered an advantage.
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of geotechnical design experience is required to be considered for this position.
  • Prior experience of using Plaxis, Oasis Xdisp, Settle 3D, Slope/W or WallAP
  • Preparing geotechnical scoping documents and interpretations
  • Performing detailed SSI analysis using Plaxis 2D and 3D, including for piled-raft, retaining wall, GMA foundations, and deep excavations
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of concept design, buildability, detailed design, high-rise buildings, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk assessment, and claim assessment.

Job Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be able to represent the practice at the project level and take responsibility for managing projects from design to construction stages.
  • The role will involve supervising a small team of engineers and technicians and ensuring that work is delivered on time and to the agreed fee.
  • Key responsibilities of this position include preparing request for proposal documents, including specifications, geotechnical/geophysical tests, and drawing layouts for investigations as necessary for the projects based on location and type of structure.
  • Other duties include performing Soil-Structure interaction design of piled raft foundations, preparing recommendations for foundation design, building, and maintaining relationships with clients and other professionals involved in the projects, and being mindful of cost implications when making recommendations.

Job Purpose

The aim of this role is to provide civil engineering design and technical support that meets safety and compliance standards, with the goal of ensuring the successful delivery of rail projects throughout the United Kingdom.

Job Objectives

  • Ensure that projects are managed in accordance with company policies and procedures, which includes providing input to all project management systems (such as Synergist) and project quality assurance (QA) systems.

  • Experience in utilizing design software such as TEDDS, Robot, CADS, Superstress, etc.

The Central region of a major public sector framework main contract construction group have secured a new build education scheme in Oxford. They have identified the need to recruit a Project Manager to lead the full project life cycle of the scheme which consists of new build education commercial and light laboratory facility, and Basement. The scheme is valued in excess of £30M and is set to commence on site in Mar 2023. This project has a large footprint, challenging ground conditions and major sewer diverts, you will need to possess strong substructure project experience.

Role purpose:

You will define, manage, and support in the undertaking and reporting of conditional assessment of all large civil assets and support in the definition of remedial works and investment requirements. Skills & experience

  • Strong industry experience and presence with an engineering or construction background.
  • The candidate will typically have undertaken a similar role in a similar sized business for a minimum of five years and be working towards becoming a professional qualified Engineer

Do you have proven experience and technical knowledge of Wastewater Hydraulic Modelling?

We currently have a number of exciting opportunities available for Wastewater Modellers at all grades, from Graduate to Principal, in a variety of locations across the UK. Currently key locations include, but are not limited to:

Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff, Reading, London (and surrounding areas), Haywards Heath, Brighton, Birmingham, Peterborough, Derby, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Belfast

These are permanent vacancies and would be offering a salary dependant on individual candidate experience and expectations.

Overview

As a Wastewater Modeller you will form a part of our clients’ hydraulic modelling team which generally support their wider engineering business focused on wastewater networks, integrated catchment management, flood alleviation, sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) and stormwater management.

Many of our clients have a diverse and growing portfolio of projects & frameworks, delivering to the majority of the UK Water Companies, the Environment Agency, Lead Local Authorities, as well as a broad range of overseas clients.

Depending on the grade that you are applying for the responsibilities can vary, but could include some of the following:

  • Conducting optioneering, solution development, model builds, calibration, and verification of complex hydraulic models.
  • Hydraulic and Water Quality Analysis – intelligent assessment of catchment hydraulics and pollutant sources to identify needs and risks.
  • Integrated Catchment Modelling – constructing models for assessing the interaction between sewers (storm and foul), watercourses and overland flows.
  • Storm Overflow Assessment Framework (SOAF) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) delivery.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science discipline (e.g. Civil Engineering, Geography, Water & Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics)
  • For Senior / Principal level opportunities – attained Chartered status via ICE or CIWEM (or the desire to work towards this accreditation)
  • Experience in urban drainage / wastewater network modelling.
  • Competence in the use of hydraulic modelling software such as Infoworks ICM
  • Awareness and understanding of UK Water industry legislation, policies and regulatory issues.
  • For more senior grades candidates should have a proven track record in one or more of business development, client management, project management and line management.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and to present this logically and accurately in reports or verbal presentations.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
